On Friday March 27, 2015 supporters of Ali Taan Fayyad, a Lebanese national being held in the Czech Republic, are planning to stage a protest near the U.S. Embassy Beirut compound. The demonstration is scheduled to take place at approximately 11:00 am at Awkar circle. U.S. citizens are warned that demonstrations and protests intended to be peaceful can escalate into violent clashes. U.S. citizens are also reminded that demonstrations and riots can occur with little or no warning. U.S. citizens are urged to avoid areas of demonstrations if possible and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of a demonstration or protest.
The U.S. Embassy further urges all U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon due to safety and security concerns. The current travel warning can be found here. U.S. citizens living and working in Lebanon should understand that they accept risks in remaining and should carefully consider those risks. The ability of U.S. government personnel to reach travelers to provide emergency services may be limited.
