Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Caution in light of recent foiled suicide attack in Hamra
January 22, 2017
The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens to exercise heightened security awareness in light of yesterday’s foiled suicide attack at a café on Hamra Street in downtown Beirut. The suspect was arrested by Lebanese security forces outside the café shortly before midnight. The U.S. Embassy has temporarily restricted some movement of its personnel in Beirut and surrounding areas of Lebanon in response to the attempted attack.
We encourage U.S. citizens to be aware of their immediate surroundings at all times, and take appropriate measures to ensure their safety and security. Terrorist incidents may occur with little or no warning. In the event of a security incident, the Embassy urges all U.S. citizens in Lebanon to avoid the area and monitor the media for latest developments.
