Security Alert – False Messages to U.S. Citizens (November 13, 2019)
Event: False reports have been circulating since yesterday evening, November 12, claiming to be from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The U.S. Embassy did not disseminate any messages to American citizens in the last 24 hours.
The U.S. Embassy posts authoritative information on its website, Facebook and Twitter accounts, and by email to U.S. citizens who have registered in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).

Actions to Take:
- Avoid crowds and the areas of demonstration.
- Monitor local news. English-language news can be accessed at https://www.mtv.com.lb/en/, http://www.naharnet.com/, https://www.dailystar.com.lb/, and http://nna-leb.gov.lb/en.
- Follow the instructions of local authorities.
- As always, ensure your travel documents are up to date.
