Event:

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health confirmed 446 cases of COVID-19 and 11 related deaths in the country as of March 30, 2020.

The government of Lebanon has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Visit the relevant government website for additional information on these measures.  Among these measures are restrictions on gatherings in places such as dining and entertainment venues, and limits on the number of public sector employees reporting to their workplaces.  Private businesses – including hotels, restaurants, apartment buildings, or supermarkets – have closed, restricted access, or mandated temperature checks, limiting access to goods and services.  Individuals in Lebanon who are feeling unwell are advised to call 1214 or 76-592699 before going to a hospital.

Rafic Hariri International airport has been closed to regularly-scheduled commercial flights since March 19.  It is tentatively scheduled to reopen no earlier than April 12.

Effective March 16, U.S. Embassy Beiruthas suspended routine consular services.  For emergency American Citizens Services, including emergency passports, please visit our website for additional information, or contact BeirutACS@state.gov.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice and a Level 3 Warning for COVID-19 in Europe advising travelers to avoid non-essential travel to Europe.

On March 18, the Department of State authorized the U.S. Embassy in Beirut to go on “ordered departure” status, which means the Embassy will reduce personnel to emergency staffing levels.
