Health Alert:  U.S. Embassy Beirut, Lebanon, April 15, 2020

Location:  Lebanon

Event:   The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health confirmed 641 cases of COVID-19 and 21 related deaths in the country as of April 14, 2020.

The Government of Lebanon has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Please also see the latest daily Lebanese government publication which consolidates every ministry’s decisions, actions and responses to address the crisis.

Rafic Hariri International airport has been closed to regularly-scheduled commercial flights since March 19.  It is tentatively scheduled to reopen no earlier than April 26.

Effective March 16, U.S. Embassy Beirut has suspended routine consular services.  For emergency American Citizens Services, including emergency passports, please visit our website for additional information, or contact BeirutACS@state.gov.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice and a Level 3 Warning for COVID-19 in Europe advising travelers to avoid non-essential travel to Europe.

On March 18, the Department of State authorized the U.S. Embassy in Beirut to go on “ordered departure” status, which reduced Embassy staffing to emergency levels.
