Health Alert:  U.S. Embassy Beirut, Lebanon, June 5, 2020

Location:  Lebanon

Event:   The Government of Lebanon confirmed 1306 cases of COVID-19 and 28 related deaths in the country as of June 4, 2020.

A curfew remains in place daily from 12 midnight until 5:00 a.m., to include private vehicular travel.  The Lebanese government has extended the general mobilization until July 5.

Rafic Hariri International airport has been closed to regularly-scheduled commercial flights since March 19.  It will remain closed until at least June 21.

The Government has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Please also see the latest daily Lebanese government publication which consolidates every ministry’s decisions, actions and responses to address the crisis.

Routine consular services at U.S. Embassy Beirut remain suspended until further notice.  The Embassy continues to provide emergency services for U.S. citizens.  Please visit our website for additional information, or contact BeirutACS@state.gov.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice and a Level 3 Warning for COVID-19 in Europe advising travelers to avoid non-essential travel to Europe.

On March 18, the Department of State authorized the U.S. Embassy in Beirut to go on “ordered departure” status, which reduced Embassy staffing to emergency levels.
