Public Diplomacy

The U.S. Embassy Beirut’s Public Diplomacy offers a variety of grant opportunities aimed at promoting mutual understanding and respect for other cultures and traditions.  Such opportunities cover an array of themes including educational and cultural programs serving women, youth, underserved communities, and people with disabilities. One example is the renowned Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), which helps countries around the globe preserve historic sites, manuscripts, museum collections, and traditional forms of expression such as music, dance, and language.

MEPI – The U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) strives to create vibrant partnerships between America and the citizens of the Middle East and North Africa.  MEPI supports citizens’ efforts aimed at economic, social, and political empowerment; expanding opportunities for women and youth; and helping communities create positive change.  MEPI Local Grants promote greater freedom and opportunity for people in the region.

Embassy Local Grants Program for Civil Society – The U.S. Embassy Beirut Local Grants Program seeks to bolster civil society by assisting underserved and/or underprivileged communities in Lebanon not currently receiving U.S. government assistance through other ongoing programs.  We are particularly interested in projects aimed at assisting communities that are hosting displaced Syrians, such as through economic empowerment, youth volunteering initiatives, and conflict resolution activities.

USAID – USAID has Missions in more than 80 countries and has programs in more than 100.
