With over 650 Spaces in 150 countries worldwide, American Spaces provide welcoming environments where visitors can connect and learn about the United States through programs and lectures, as well as through books, movies, and magazines.  Hosted in embassies, schools, libraries, and other partner institutions worldwide, American Spaces are platforms for providing information and engagement through activities, such as;

  • Educational advising for those who want to study in the U.S.,
  • Workshops on a range of topics from career skills to English language learning,
  • Classes and clubs introducing new technologies, 21st century digital skills, and academic resources,
  • Films, discussions, and lectures on entrepreneurship, leadership, current events, international affairs, and much more.

The American Corners (ACs) in Lebanon are partnerships between the Public Diplomacy section of U.S. Embassy Beirut and local institutions.  In Lebanon, there are two ACs: in Baakline, located in the Baakline National Library, and in Zahleh, located in the municipal library of Zahleh-Maallaka.

American Corners provide current and reliable information about the United States, its society, culture, economy, and history.  The Corners also have many English-language resources, such as books, magazines, movies, internet, and online databases.  In addition to these resources, ACs host speaker programs, public readings, movie screenings, and workshops.   The American Corners’ resources are available to all free of charge.

American Corners feature an extensive collection of American fiction, reference books, and publications on U.S. society, culture, government, history, economy, and various other topics.  American Corners also have a collection of films and documentaries.
