On November 24, Ambassador Elizabeth H. Richard attended the Teaching Women English (TWE) Program teachers’ workshop and shared a Thanksgiving meal with this year’s partners and English language teachers.
The three-day teachers’ workshop marks the launch of the 2018-2019 TWE program, which will serve over 800 women in 36 communities across Lebanon.
Implemented by USPEaK Association, the TWE program provides six months of English language classes, cultural activities, and skills workshops to women from Lebanon’s various socio-economic segments.
The U.S. Government, through its Public Affairs Section, has invested $3.9 million in the TWE Program since its inception in 2008, which has allowed around 8,800 women to learn the basics of the English language.
Since 2007, the United States has provided nearly $5 billion in total combined assistance to Lebanon, including more than $1.7 billion in military assistance and more than $3.1 billion in development and humanitarian assistance.
